Our living compost is ready on a monthly basis!

Over the past few months, food waste collected from local homes, businesses and a school in St Albans has been transformed into something rather special.

We combined it with fresh woodchip from local tree surgeons and our volunteers carefully monitored and cared for the compost through each stage of the process. Then nature took over. A thriving community of beneficial bacteria, fungi and other microorganisms quietly transformed the material into a rich, living compost that helps restore healthy soil.

Now it’s ready to return to local gardens, allotments and growing spaces across St Albans.

Small amount. Big impact.

Because our compost is packed with an extraordinary diversity of beneficial microorganisms, we think of it as a living soil conditioner rather than a traditional compost.

One 30-litre bucket contains enough microbial life to help regenerate a surprisingly large area of garden soil or breathe new life into shop-bought compost.

You can spread it onto the soil, gently work it into the surface, or steep it in a hessian sack to make a biologically rich compost extract for watering around your plants.

To reserve your compost, please email hello@soilsquad.uk and let us know how many 30-litre bags you’d like.

We only have a limited amount available, so reserving in advance will help us make sure everyone who wants some has the opportunity to collect it.

We suggest a donation of £10 per 30-litre bag. You can bring a cash donation when you collect your compost or email hello@soilsquad.uk for our bank transfer details.

Collection will be from the Soil Squad plot at Sandridge Road Allotments, St Albans – Saturday 15 August, 9am to 10am.

Please bring your own bag, bucket or wheelbarrow.
